Helpful information

A guide for JCS families

Open a topic to learn about school routines, student support, and practical details.

Helping students settle in

Our counseling team checks in with students as they adjust to a new country or school system. Homeroom teachers are also a regular point of contact for each student’s day-to-day wellbeing at school.

After-school tutoring helps students from English-speaking countries develop their Spanish skills.

Families may contact JCS for a list of recommended psychologists for parents, guardians, or students.

School year, holidays & class groups

The JCS school year runs from August through June and observes Dominican and U.S. national holidays. Classes have a maximum of 23 students, with a teacher assistant in preschool through Grade 2.

Uniforms, lunch & cafeteria

School uniforms are available for purchase through JCS.

The cafeteria is open during breaks, lunchtime, and after school, with a hot lunch offered each day. Meals include options such as rice, meat, and salad. To support healthy choices, candy, soda, chips, and cookies are limited on campus.

Campus health & safety

Campus safety includes a school nurse, annual first-aid training for staff, security cameras, a gate guard, fire alarms, and regular evacuation drills.

Preparing school supplies

Elementary students bring their supplies in a box to give to the homeroom teacher. Middle and high school students keep their own materials, except art supplies, which are given to the art teacher at the start of the year. Please label each item with the student’s name.
