Getting to Jarabacoa

Santiago (STI) is the closest major airport. Approximate drives are about one hour from Santiago, 2–3 hours from Santo Domingo, and 4–5 hours from Punta Cana. Routes and traffic affect travel time.

JCS welcomes incoming teachers with airport pickup, a welcome basket, help setting up internet, a town orientation, a welcome meal, and a tour of the school.

JCS provides rent-free shared-apartment or host-family housing. The school also helps teachers arrange another suitable option if they prefer to live independently or are moving with family.

JCS-arranged housing includes a private bedroom, shared kitchen and living room, laundry, water storage and heating, a generator, and Wi-Fi. Teachers arrange drinking water, cooking gas, decorations, and personal appliances.

Getting around

Local transportation includes taxis, shared buses called guaguas, and scheduled coaches for longer trips. JCS gives incoming teachers a town orientation to help them get familiar with local services and routes.

Jarabacoa has supermarkets with local and imported products, as well as banks and ATMs. Dominican pesos in cash can be useful for small purchases and local businesses.

JCS provides projectors, whiteboards, classroom furniture, Google education tools, and basic teaching materials. Teachers bring a personal laptop and receive the school’s dress guidelines during onboarding.
